L'Observatoire International illuminates Daniel Boulud's latest culinary venture, La Tête d'Or, with a lighting design that is both a subtle backdrop and a defining feature of the space. In collaboration with the Rockwell Group, the design team has crafted an atmosphere that seamlessly blends Art Deco influences with a contemporary sensibility, resulting in a dining experience that is both timeless and of the moment. From the street, a warm invitation emanates through the double-height glass façade. Inside, custom-designed ribbed umber glass fixtures, crafted by Preciosa, cast an amber hue throughout the entry vestibule, offering a serene transition from the bustling city. Within the main dining area, a delicate balance of functional and atmospheric lighting enhances the rich materiality of the space: deep blue tones, dark marble, and supple leather. Soft, diffused light washes over the millwork, while strategically placed fixtures accentuate the intricate ceiling details. Jesse Willems' artwork takes center stage, illuminated with precision using concealed LED strips to amplify textures and colors, creating a dynamic interplay between art and design. Intimate private dining spaces are adorned with ribbed glass pendants and brass accents, enhancing the luxurious silk-look wallpaper and floral murals. The bar area, a study in blue tones, dark marble, wood, and leather, is bathed in a soft, flattering light that enhances the Art Deco-inspired details and creates a sense of understated elegance. Throughout La Tête d'Or, the lighting design acts as an invisible hand, shaping the mood, drawing attention to textures, and ultimately elevating the dining experience to one of refined luxury.

ARMAGEDDON OR SUNRISE OR SOMETHING “It feels like a dive inside to maneuver the body elsewhere… a resistant state of internality against a hideous political world we live in right now.” dance scholar/choreographer, Tere O’Connor ARMAGEDDON OR SUNRISE OR SOMETHING is an evening length duet made and performed alongside my collaborator Leah Wilks. The work is built on scores investigating exhaustion, endurance and the sensuality/the geographic of both internal and external landscapes. The work grapples with the necessity of proximity to each other: we shake, rumble and drag each other to the ground, carry + sing to each other. Pulling from our different training histories in improvisation, Olympic-level sport, ballet, modern dance technique, photography, and sound design, the piece functions as both a grief ritual and a space for reckoning with limitation. Throughout the work the body becomes landscape, home, monument, spellcaster, caretaker, boundary, and the location of desire. Duration: 65 minutes, Clip duration: 44 seconds Premiered: May 2019, Bluestem Hall, Barnhardt Prairie, University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign Made and performed in collaboration with Leah Wilks. Since the 1980s, Peter Kogler has developed a specific vocabulary of constructive, symbolic and biomorphic structures that form the basis of his computer-generated, space-filling installations. In close dialogue with the architecture of the site, Kogler uses wallpaper, video projections and traditional elements of interior design to create visual experiences that are often compared to illusionist labyrinths. He was one of the first of his generation to experiment artistically with computers.
